Markus Brendmoe

Born 1961, Oslo, Norway
Resides and works in Oslo, Norway

Markus Brendmoe uses painting to blend the historical and the  contemporary. Pop culture icons, Edvard Munch's well-known totems, and the artist's own likeness are worthy themes to be rendered in the artist's signature style. With bright colors, fluid washes, and gestural contours, Brendmoe's paintings are both lively in their activation and surreal in their graphic flatness.

Brendmoe works with acrylic paint on a wide variety of surfaces, both conventional canvas as well as artist-made wooden assemblages, favoring large-scale productions.

Markus Brendmoe has had solo exhibitions at both The Stenersen Museum and The Astrup Fearnley Museum. His work can be found in several important collections, including The Museum of Contemporary Art, Statoil and Hydro.
